About Red Oak Defense
I started Red Oak Defense to offer firearms training that feels calm, clear, and human.
A lot of firearms instruction is built around speed, volume, or performance. That works for some people—but it can be intimidating, rushed, or overwhelming for beginners. Especially for people who are new, cautious, or just want to understand what they’re doing without being talked down to.
My approach is different by design.
I focus on private and small-group instruction so the pace is set by the student, not the clock or the room. Questions are encouraged. Mistakes are expected. The goal isn’t to impress anyone—it’s to build real understanding, safe habits, and confidence that actually sticks.
I’m a certified NRA instructor and a licensed Connecticut notary, but more importantly, I’ve spent years helping first-time shooters learn safely and comfortably. Red Oak Defense is simply the formal version of what I’ve already been doing informally for a long time: guiding people through their first experiences with firearms in a way that’s practical, respectful, and low-pressure.
Training is conversational, hands-on, and focused on fundamentals. Whether you’re here to complete the Connecticut pistol permit requirement, refresh your skills, or just feel more comfortable around firearms, the instruction is tailored to you—not the other way around.
Red Oak Defense is intentionally small. I don’t run assembly-line classes, and I don’t try to be everything to everyone. This is for everyday people who want clear explanations, patient instruction, and a calm learning environment.
If that sounds like what you’re looking for, I’m happy to talk and see if it’s a good fit.
